TEACHING LEVEL 1: INTRODUCTORY TEACHING SKILLS

COURSE OVERVIEW

  • This course provides training in the key teaching skills of guiding the core mindfulness practices from the Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC) and leading enquiry.
  • This course provides participants with opportunities to lead guided practices and enquiry with fellow participants in a safe environment. Feedback will be provided in weekend two by fellow participants.
  • It is designed for those who have completed at least the Mindfulness Level 1 training and is a foundation for those who wish to go on to do the MBLC teaching skills retreat to learn to teach our 8 week MBLC course.
  • This course takes place over two weekends spread out over a three month period and aims to support participants to begin developing a safe and effective Mindfulness teaching practice.
  • The course emphasises the requirement for facilitators to be able to embody mindfulness and compassion while facilitating secular Mindfulness training courses. The key skill is learning to stay fully present as you lead guided practices and enquiry. This skill depends entirely upon a sustained and regular personal mindfulness practice.
  • Completing this course qualifies you for:

TEACHING LEVEL 2: MBLC TEACHING SKILLS RETREAT

COURSE OVERVIEW

  • This is an in-depth training retreat over five days exploring each of the stages of the MBLC 8 week course. There is a strong focus on participants getting ‘hands on’ experience of delivering course.
  • This course explores the rationales behind the practices and the way they fit together as a whole.
  • It is designed for those who have completed Teaching Level 1 or for trained Mindfulness teachers of other approaches, such as MBSR and MBCT, who are familiar through practice with the MBLC course curriculum.
  • Feedback from participants and tutors on this course is given with reference to the domains of the Mindfulness Based Interventions Teaching Assessment Criteria (MBI-TAC), which are explored during this retreat.
  • Live sessions delivered by the participants will be self-assessed by the participants and discussed with tutors who will also make an assessment. Participants meeting the advanced beginner level of the MBI-TAC will be awarded a certificate of readiness to teach the MBLC at the end of this retreat.
  • Successful completion of this retreat provides participants with all they need to begin to deliver the MBLC 8 week course.

MBLC FOR YOUNG ADULTS (MBLC-YA) TEACHING SKILLS RETREAT

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Mindfulness Based Living Course for Young Adults (MBLC-YA) is the Mindfulness Association‘s ten week curriculum for 11-18 year olds that is based on their Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC) for adults. The course introduces the concepts of Mindfulness and self-compassion and aims to develop these qualities in students through classroom-based practices and activities designed for this age group.

The course consists of ten sessions, delivered usually at a rate of one per week, each session lasting from 40 minutes to one hour. Each session explores themes such as ‘Your amazing mind’ (which looks at the developing adolescent brain with its different trajectories of emotional development and development of executive function and explains that our brains are hardwired for survival rather than happiness, so these tricky minds are ‘not our fault’), ‘Staying present’, ‘Dropping anchor’ into the present moment (using the support of breath, body or sound), distraction, attitude, appreciation, and what it might mean to live a mindful life – one that is in alignment with what we value.

Each session is accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation and self-compassion (i.e. directing kindness towards ourselves then things are difficult) is woven throughout the fabric of the course. A comprehensive student manual accompanies the course in addition to a wide variety of online recorded practices for students to access.

Pre-requisites for delivery of this course include completion of the Mindfulness Association‘s Level 1 Mindfulness training, which is delivered over four weekends, spread out over approximately nine months, followed by the Mindfulness Association’s ‘Teaching Level One‘ course, which is delivered over two weekends and finally, attendance at the residential Samye Ling five-day MBLC-YA Teaching Skills Retreat. Please find the dates and booking information below.

COURSE OVERVIEW

  • This is an in-depth training retreat over five days exploring each of the stages of the CBLC 8 week course. There will be strong focus on participants getting ‘hands on’ experience of delivering the course.
  • This course explores the rationales behind the practices and the way they fit together as a whole.
