This month we have taken quotes from our new book Compassion Based Living, which will be published at the end of the month, with availability to pre-order a copy.

We are very proud to present our new Compassion Based Living Course Book, by Choden and Heather Regan-Addis, published by Mantra Books.

The Compassion Based Living Course is a unique self-help book to support us in cultivating compassion in our messy human lives which follows on from the authors’ Mindfulness Based Living Course (2018, O-Books), and From Mindfulness to Insight (2019, Shambhala) which they wrote with Rob Nairn.

The course book is based on fifteen years’ experience of teaching in-depth mindfulness and compassion meditation courses to thousands of students. The book is supported by audio files for the guided practices.

Endorsement

It is with great pleasure that I recommend this introduction to compassion written by Heather & Choden. The world is being swamped by books and articles on this topic so readers may wonder, why yet another? The reason is simple – this is a practical DIY for those who might be interested in the Compassion Based Living Course which is offered by the Mindfulness Association. I know that hundreds of people have done and benefitted from this course so feel confident in suggesting that many more people, including you, will benefit from it.

Rob Nairn, author of Diamond Mind

Why might you want to read this book?

If you have perfectionist or people pleasing tendencies, if find yourself tormented by an inner critical voice or if you struggle to find time to meet your own needs because you are over-focussed on others’ needs, then this book will help.

The book draws on compassion teachings and practices from Mahayana Buddhism, which have been adapted to make them accessible to a Western audience. The book presents the theories and practices of compassion in simple psychological terms, in a systematic, step by step way.

Course participants have reported transformation in their lives on many levels, including their relationships to themselves, their loved ones and friends.

Research suggests that being more compassionate improves our physical and mental wellbeing. Compassion practice opens us up to allowing our human messiness to reveal itself and supports us to be OK with the way we are. We gradually realise that that the messy human condition is not our fault and so we can let ourselves off the hook of perfection.
