START TRAINING NOW

If you have engaged in mindfulness training yourself and feel you have benefited, then what a wonderful opportunity to help share the benefits of mindfulness practice with others so they benefit too. Please start your teaching journey with us and share the benefits of Mindfulness with others.

As part of your mindfulness training, you may have noticed a personal transformation in terms of managing your own stress levels and increased wellbeing. By training to teach the 8-week Mindfulness Based Living Course, we can help others to relieve their stress, manage pain and chronic illness, achieve their full potential, and really flourish in their lives.

By going through the teacher training and sharing the benefits of mindfulness with others our own practice and understanding of mindfulness grows. In turn our practice deepens, and we reap the benefit too. We are affiliated with the British Association of Mindfulness Based Approaches BAMBA and work within their Good Practice Guidelines.

The Mindfulness Based Living Course Book, written by Heather Regan-Addis and Choden, supports the Mindfulness Based Living Course.  The book is available from leading booksellers including Waterstones and Hive.

Mindfulness Teacher Training Pathway

We have a clearly defined training pathway for those who want to teach Mindfulness.   The teacher training pathway diagram shows that there are actually 4 ways to begin the training depending on various circumstances including:

  • Whether you have completed a Mindfulness course
  • Whether you wish to study at Master’s degree level
  • Whether you have already had some training to teach Mindfulness

Our courses train you to teach our 8 week Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC).  Once complete, if you wish, you can continue to train to teach the 8 week Mindfulness Course for Young Adults (MBLC-YA) and the 8 week Compassion Based Living Course (CBLC).

1.  Can I train to teach mindfulness without any previous experience?

If you have not previously trained in Mindfulness then we have a Teacher Training Package, which includes:

2.   Train to Teach if you have completed our Level 1 Being Present Mindfulness Course

If you have already completed our Level 1 Being Present Mindfulness Course you can proceed to train to teach over two weekends online or at Samye Ling Centre in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. After completing the two weekends you can complete the training by attending the 6-day Level 2 Teacher Training which is held online.

3.   Train to Teach if you have trained to teach Mindfulness and have completed the Mindfulness Association’s 8 week Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC) or modules 2-3 of the Level 1 Being Present Course.

You will be able to go straight to the Level 2 Training (MBLC retreat), or the Training for Young Adults course (MBLC-YA).

4.   Train to Teach by Studying our Master Degree in Mindfulness

The MSc Studies in Mindfulness, which we teach with the University of Aberdeen, provides the equivalent training as the two weekends Level 1 MBLC teacher training course. Participants would then need to continue to complete the Level 2 MBLC retreat.

The assessment for the course is in line with the Good Practice Guidelines for the British Association of Mindfulness Based Approaches (BAMBA).

Continuing Professional Development

An important part of any job that we do is continued professional development.  We need this to enhance our skills, deepen into our role and learn new skills connected with our profession. As a mindfulness teacher you can learn a variety of skills to enhance your teaching.  For example, you may wish to practice your enquiry skills, or learn more about bringing compassion into your teaching, deepen your enquiry skills, or learn how to take care of yourself as a mindfulness teacher.

The Mindfulness Association offers regular continuing professional development (CPD) over online evening and weekend courses. We also offer the opportunity to train as a Mindfulness Teacher Supervisor, where you train to support other Mindfulness Teachers in their teaching practice to fulfil their requirements as a registered Mindfulness teacher with the British Association of Mindfulness Based Approaches (BAMBA),

Can I learn Mindfulness but possibly train to become a teacher later?

Yes, you can train in Mindfulness on our Level 1 Being Present course and then begin the teacher training at a later date that suits you.

We have a separate path for people that want to learn and develop their personal Mindfulness Practice.

If you start training with us and then decide you want to teach then we can advise the best way to move into our teacher training program.

What if I have trained elsewhere? Do I still have to complete Level 1?

No, but you will need to complete modules 2 and 3 of the course or our 8 week Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC).  This is so that you become familiar with the content of the 8 week MBLC and embody the practices yourself.

Where are your courses held?

Our guided Mindfulness Teacher training courses take place online, or in person at the Samye Ling, Tibetan Buddhist Centre in Dumfriesshire in Scotland. The MSc Mindfulness and Compassion is held at the London campus of the University of West Scotland.

Online Courses

All of our guided Mindfulness meditation courses are held online.  Training online is more cost and time effective, negating the necessity to travel or find accommodation. All the courses are guided by a Mindfulness Association tutor on Zoom.

Do accredited mindfulness teacher training courses exist?

There isn’t currently an official Mindfulness teacher training accreditation for teaching Mindfulness in the UK, however the British Association of Mindfulness Based Approaches (BAMBA) provides a set of good practice guidelines, which we adhere to, and we are affiliated with them as an organisation.

These guidelines have been developed to promote good practice in teaching secular mindfulness-based courses. Mindfulness courses are intended to teach people mindfulness in ways that can help with physical and psychological health problems and ongoing life challenges. These guidelines cover secular mindfulness-based programs taught in mainstream settings, typically over eight weeks.
